Recovering Charles – Chapter 7 Excerpt

Recovering Charles – Chapter 7 Excerpt

Larry Gorton’s feet were in their usual position atop his desk.

”Knock, knock,” I said, pushing his door open.

”Mr. Millward!” His voice was low and authoritative. “You, my former star pupil, have been delinquent. Please enter and tell me why you haven’t come to visit me in such a long time that this old man can barely match your name to your face.”

”You’re not an old man-”

”Don’t interrupt.”

”You were done!”

”My office, my classroom, my rules.”

I put an index finger to both sides of my head and pulled the trigger.

”Don’t do that, Mr. Millward. I haven’t got my camera out.”

I laughed-easy to do in Larry’s world. “It’s good to see you, too. But it hasn’t been that long, sir.”

”Long enough. Long enough, young man, long enough.”

”How have you been? Am I keeping you from something?”

”Yes, you’re keeping me from my work, and for that I’m indebted to you, Mr. Millward.”

”You don’t have to call me ‘Mister’ anymore; I’m out of school.” I’d said that every single time I’d seen my old professor since graduation from NYU. It never mattered.

”Are you still a Mr. Millward, Luke?”

”Of course, but we’re not in class. I’m not a student. We’re peers now.” I’d said that before, too.

”Your last name, Mr. Millward, defines you.” He put his hands on the back of his head, interlocked his fingers, and stretched back in his chair.

”Your last name tells society who you are and where you came from, both in the short term and in the greater sense of where your ancestors’ ship originated.”

I smiled and repeated each and every one of those familiar words in my mind as he spoke them.

”You’re right, as usual, Mr. Gorton.” Those words were equally familiar.

”Then we agree to play by proper societal conventions.” He put his feet on the floor and dramatically swiveled around to a mini-refrigerator on the floor. “Let’s drink.” He pulled out two small bottles of water.

”Thanks,” I said, as he tossed me one.

He opened his and guzzled half the water. “How’s work?”

”Work is great. I’m getting a lot of freelance projects. Even saying no to some now. I just can’t take every job anymore.”

”Listen, you do that as infrequently as you can. You never know which picture could change-”

”The world. I know.”

Larry returned his feet to their home on his desk. Noticing the Oreo-sized holes in the heels of his socks only reminded me how much I had missed the man. Confident, kind, and maybe more comfortable with his place in life than anyone I’d ever known.

I suppose he reminded me a bit of Jordan. Maybe that’s why I enjoyed being around them both.

I’d been a fence-sitter on photography until I entered his classroom for the first time. The art had always interested me, but like so many other passions it seemed impractical to turn art into industry and a hobby into a living. Hauling a camera around the world shooting pictures sounded glamorous and rewarding. But I knew few achieved the highest levels of success. Most never won awards or saw their work on newsstands or on Drudge. Sadly, few of the dreamers could make the leap from child shutterbug taking pictures on a disposable 35-millimeter to standing in the back of the White House Rose Garden shooting images of the president and leader of the free world.

I wanted that back then, but my heart and head didn’t believe I had the eye.

Thank goodness Larry Gorton thought I did.

”Mr. Millward, what can I do for you? You bring me pictures to gush over?”

”No, sir, not this time. Just visiting. Checking in.”

He chugged the rest of his water and shot the bottle hard across his office, using the wall as a backboard, watching it bounce around the rim and settle in the trash can. His raised both arms above his head. “That’s a three.”

I grinned and fidgeted with Larry’s plastic Rudy Giuliani bobblehead doll.

”What’s on your mind, kid?”

”Sir?”

He lowered his eyes and folded his arms across his sweater-vest.

”I don’t know, I guess I just wanted to say hi. I’ll let you get back to work.” I returned Rudy to his spot on Larry’s desk and stood.

”Sit.”

I obliged.

”You’re a horrible poker player, Luke Millward.”

You have no idea.

”How’s your father?”

It was my turn to chug the rest of my water bottle. I tossed it toward the trash can. Missed. “Figures.”

”You heard from him lately?”

”Not exactly.” As my academic mentor, Larry had known bits and pieces of my personal history. He knew Mom was dead from prescription drug abuse, and he had met Dad once during my freshman year at NYU. But sitting there I couldn’t recall how much I’d told him about Dad.

”You hear from him much anymore?”

”It’s been a while, sir.”

”How long?”

”A couple years, I guess, maybe a little less.” I picked up the bobblehead doll again.

”He still drinking?”

I nodded.

Larry did, too. “That’s a shame. . . . Tough life you’ve lived, young man. I bet your mom would be proud.”

I nodded once more.

”Then tell me, Mr. Millward, what else is going on in your exciting, jet-setting life? Is there a woman?”

”Not really. Dates here and there. I’m hanging out a lot with a girl I met in school-Jordan Knapp.”

”Good woman?”

”Sure is. We’re just friends though. No time for a relationship right now.”

”Does she know that?” he asked.

”That we’re just friends?”

He nodded.

”Sure she does.”

Wait for it.

”Good. And let’s not forget the most important relationship, the one with our lens, you remember?”

I laughed despite myself. “Of course.” I mocked his deep voice. “‘The eternally intimate relationship between life and lens.’ How could I forget?”

Larry smiled and probably congratulated himself on another job well done. Few professors took as much pride in the finished product than Larry Gorton did.

The two of us sat and enjoyed the rare silence that comes when two people trust one another. Eventually the chatter resumed. Politics, Iraq, the rash of paparazzi incidents in LA, Katrina, Rudy’s rumored run for the White House in 2008, the Yankees. He showed me photos he’d taken earlier that summer on a trip to China. The pictures were captivating enough to take my mind off Jerome Harris. Almost.

”Can I ask you for some advice?” I finally said.

”Of course, that’s why you came.” He checked his clock. “I’ve still got time. Class starts in twenty-five.”

”I got a call the other day from a man in New Orleans.”

”After Katrina?”

”Yes.”

”Proceed.”

”This man, Jerome-a native I’m guessing-he called to tell me he knew my father. He’d been living in New Orleans.”

Larry put his feet back on the floor and leaned onto his desk. There was never a better listener.

”He said he played with my father in a band. They both live in the Lower Ninth Ward.”

Larry’s eyes asked for more.

”My father is missing. No one has seen him since last Sunday.”

”Before landfall.”

”Yes, sir. And now they’re all worried. Worried he’s dead somewhere, or worse-injured, in trouble, something . . .”

”And this Jerome, you’ve never met him?”

”No.”

”Any reason to doubt him? To mistrust?”

”Don’t see why.”

Larry studied my face. His eyes processed the scene. “You think your father is dead.”

I stood and walked to the trash can, picking up the bottle that had landed on the floor and dropping it in.

”Hmm.” Larry leaned back in his chair again, rubbing his face before lacing his hands behind his head.

”Would you go?” I asked.

”I don’t do hypotheticals, you ought to remember that. Trust your eyes and the lens, nothing else.”

That was precisely what I knew he’d say from the second I pushed open his office door. I examined a line of photos in matching black frames on his back wall.

”You could always take your camera,” Larry said.

”Sir?”

”Take your camera to New Orleans. Make the drive. The airport is probably still closed anyway.”

”Drive from New York to New Orleans.”

”Uh-huh.”

”That’s a long way, an awfully long way.”

”They do make maps, Mr. Millward. There is even this crazy new thing called the interweb-all the kids on campus are talking about it. Some of these interweb places even give turn-by-turn directions. Imagine that.”

I looked for something to throw.

”I’m serious about this, young man. Make the trip. Take your camera. Blog it. Stop at other cities along the way. New Orleans isn’t the only area cleaning up.”

I took a deep breath and exhaled loudly. I ran my fingers through my hair. My stomach flittered. I looked at my watch and put on my jacket.

”Mr. Millward, you’ve seen a lot of suffering in your life; you’ve seen parts of the world most of my students will only see in the fantastic pictures you’ve taken. But you’ve never seen what’s happening in the Gulf.

You’ve never seen this kind of human event. Go. Capture it. Educate us. Honor them.”

I knew you’d be good, I thought. I didn’t think you’d be that good.

”OK, then, I’ll let you get to class. Thank you.” We shook hands.

”You’ll go?”

”We’ll see.” I said good-bye and put my hand on the doorknob.

”Luke.”

I turned to face him.

”Go recover your father.”

Secrets of an American Teenager: Cute even in Fall

Secrets of an American Teenager: Cute even in Fall

Ok let’s all just admit it. Even though fall and winter are nearing or are practically here we can’t give up our summer fashion styles so easily. We want to be cute no matter what we wear and we truly believe that a big oversized coat will make that hot guy turn away from us today. Maybe it does make people look away but the most important thing to know about this time of the year is that we can look fabulous and still stay in style. Believe it or not being cute in the pouring rain in shorts and a cute shirt doesn’t matter, the rain matters. We’ve all had our moments we want to look fashionable although it’s a windy day we insist on wearing that dress and have a Marilyn Monroe moment, when oops there goes the dress and we weren’t even standing over a vent to make flirtatious gestures. It’s embarrassing to be caught in the cold without a sweater or a jacket or with something on that is clearly for the summer. So just be sure there are tons of ways to stay sheik and glamorous without so much trouble as you would think and will leave you puffy free from all the fur and big oversized jackets.

Ok so maybe some of us don’t have a problem dressing warm but that’s ok these tips are very useful and can be done by anyone not just teens. When looking for garments of any sort we look for color and patterns and most importantly we think about what’s good and what’s not to today’s society. For example, blouses that Prince used to wear in the 80′s may be great for a Halloween costume but not for a daily basis.  But long sleeve shirts and sweaters have a lot of great appeal these days as well as scarves, coats and even rain boots, yes rain boots.

1.      Wear the turtle neck and long sleeves. Remember how you use to hate when mom tried to make you wear them and you would swear that tore at your skin and made you itch, well now turtle necks and long sleeves shirts have a greater appeal to both men and women. Old Navy is one company that caters to a lot of different genres and styles. With patterns on the shirts as well as the cuts around the collar bone, which can allow you to wear different shirts underneath to create a different look. Also this shove up you sleeves, this gesture is generally use to make way for air because it’s too hot but sometimes the scrunched look can really make an impression on your outfit.

2.      Sweater dresses. These are great for the fall season. It’s not too just yet and we’re transitioning from the summer with the luke warm days. Sweater dresses that come to the top of you knee are great and can be found at places like forever 21, Gap, express and Jc Penny’s and many other department stores around this time. And when it does become cold you can throw on a pair of tights to keep you legs warm.

3.      Sweaters are the “it” factor. Don’t limit your sweater selection to the big hobo one’s you use for gym or the ones that your grandparents give you. Make that an item on you wish list. Like shirts sweaters can have different collar cuts and you can use this advantage to wear different t-shirts/spaghetti straps underneath to make a different outfit each time. These can be found all around you especially with the temperatures dropping. Your best bet is to dive into a local fashion shop or if not oldnavy.com or overstock.com

4.      Go for colorful scarves. There are the ones that say that each season has a color, but it truly depends on how you wear it and where. Brightening up your look with colorful silk scarves as well as woven cotton ones too leave an everlasting impression you don’t want to have the same look over and over again but with scarves the look different every time. You can find gorgeous scarves and me many other items at http://womenclothingtoday.com

5.      Trench coats are great coats to have. Depending on the fabric and where you live you can find a coat that matches you need. Most woven coats are the best choice because of their warmth and the lasting material. The best part about these coats is that they come in a variety of different styles as well as they are a lot thinner than those oversized coats that we dread putting on. These coats compliment our outfits as well as add a different look. You can find a lot of great prices and coats at Target.com or the department store.

As a writer I like to give women of all ages a since of style that they can love forever. I enjoy feeding the interest of readers of all genres. If you have a taste for fashion or good fabric sense you can find a gorgeous collection of handmade painted silk shawls and scarves at http://womenclothingtoday.com or at http://womenclothingtoday.com/All_Silk Scarves and Shawls/?reset=1.

Create Copious Amounts of Content For Your Blog Quickly and Effortlessly

Create Copious Amounts of Content For Your Blog Quickly and Effortlessly

Who else is having trouble coming up with content for their blog? If you are anything like the vast majority of bloggers who are reading this right now, the simple truth is that you are probably struggling with this ONE thing more so than anything else, right? It’s true… and all you have to do is look around at the cacophony of abandoned blogs littering the highways and byways of the online landscape to realize this is a pretty pernicious problem.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.
You’re thinking – “sure it’s easy for you to come up with tons and tons of blog content, simply because you’re super smart, really interesting and have an amazing avalanche of useless information stored in your head which is great for blog content”

And I’m not going to lie to you, you make an excellent point. I also have a killer collection of cardigan sweater vests and am a great ping pong player as well.

But the truth is, coming up with copious amounts of creative, compelling and killer content for your blog is FAR easier than most realize, and it’s almost silly to STOP posting because you’ve run out of ideas.

Post links to other resources: This is one of the best ways to jump start your blog with new content….and there is literally an endless supply of this style content that’s perfect for just about any niche there is. Simply go to popular news aggregates or authority sites for your niche, and write a nice keyword rich title, a little introductory paragraph, and LINK to other good sources that you’re readers will enjoy. This has the ADDED benefit of being a good ecological practice for creating relationships within your niche, as everybody values (and appreciates) other blogs that show them some love.

Clipped Content: This is sort of similar to #1, but you just “clip” content from blogs that are relevant to your niche, add a little bit of commentary of your own, and link back to the original source. There are lots of native (and free) tools that do this “out of the box”, and my favorite is the popular web browser, Flock. Just find good stories you like, right click and hit “blog this”, and you can literally have a properly formatted, “white hat” post on YOUR blog, with the content you “clipped”, and can be posted remotely from Flock itself to boot, (once you set up your blog to accept remote posting).

Ask a ton of questions: This is a great way to update your site with the sort of content that the search engines (and your human visitors) will really love. Any (and every) niche has a stream of consciousness and conversation, and it’s almost always “framed” in the questions that are happening, right now, in your readers mind. Take your keywords, and just start asking questions. Answer them in your blog posts, and post the actual questions as the titles. I can truly do this all day…and I’m guessing, if you’re passionate about YOUR niche, so too can you.

Master Your Swing With Good Clubs (Iii)

Master Your Swing With Good Clubs (Iii)

When you take your backswingI bet in your head you must think “terrible back swing I am in trouble” and you give up on the swing on the way down.

We all see the guy at the range with the dark sun tan beautiful white teeth and beautiful golf clubs that look like he paid a ton. Beautiful golf clothes head to toe, sweater vest etc. Then you see the swing?

One hundred miles per hour back and two hundred miles per hour thru all while standing up on the downswing with your Titleist AP2 Irons the ball flies 140 yards dead right. He immediately in rapid fire succession launches 30 more balls in a row directly right and further right because he keeps swinging over the top and further left so he cuts across everything. Don’t be this guy. Realize that swing on the inside is the only way to not slice. The Callaway Big Bertha Irons 2008 must come inside! You don’t need a mortgage from a lender company to pay for your swing. How to get it inside is very difficult for most amateurs because it feels so wrong. In baseball that we all played as kids if we want to pull the ball to left we swing the bat faster and earlier and pull it left.

Now a slicer sees the ball going right so he starts pulling the club left to try and make the ball go left. Makes sense to me and I use to do it. However, this doesn’t work in golf. Keep swinging your old way and you may need some first aid because your back will hurt. Good luck!

Lost – Review Of Lost Season 6 Episode 7 – 3.9.2010

Lost – Review Of Lost Season 6 Episode 7 – 3.9.2010

Lost – Review of Lost Season 6 Episode 7 –  3.9.2010

After tonight’s Lost episode we will be a third of the way home. The first six episodes have proven to be exciting, but have not revealed a lot of the answers that Lost fanatics have been pining for. According to Matthew Fox, the final season is supposed to settle into one linear plot around this time so we can expect a lot to happen from here on out. Although the sideways time frame has been pretty dull, the characters achieved a lot of personal growth that they did not experience on the island.

In the sideways timeline Benjamin Linus seems to be a mild mannered history teacher, but it turns out he’s just as jacked up as he is on the island. He finds out from his favorite student that the principal is having an affair with the school nurse and uses it to try and blackmail the principal. This proves that you can never underestimate the quiet nerdy guy with the glasses and sweater vest. Anyway, the principal brilliantly flips the script and tells Linus that unless he retracts his blackmail attempt he will ruin Alex’s future. So his plan to rule the school was shut down just as fast as it was formulated.

As I mentioned before the people in the sideways time line seem to get a second chance at proving themselves by doing the right thing, as we have seen Jack become a good father, Locke getting over depression and leading a productive life, etc. This time, Ben shows that even though he is still the conniving weasel that he is on the island he doesn’t quite have the heart to ruin Alex’s life again. Back on the island Ben chooses to be completely honest with Ilana and reveals that he just wants to be accepted, and it pays off. The episode ends with the Locke haters reuniting on the beach and Widmore looking at them through the scope of his submarine. What does it all mean people!

Branding Basics: How To Build A Brand

Branding Basics: How To Build A Brand

Branding is a process that is overlooked by many small businesses, but every business has a brand, whether the company is actively involved in the branding process or not. Wouldn’t you like to have a hand in shaping your company image in the eyes of your current and potential customers? This article provides six essential steps to building your brand.

What is a Brand?

A brand represents a company’s personality. It is the embodiment of all information, ideas, images, and associations that people have of your company, product or service. A brand is built through word of mouth, experiences with the company/product, marketing materials and more. Branding helps people to distinguish one company from the next.

What comes to your mind when you think of Apple? Words that come to my mind are trendy, hip, creative and sleek. This is no accident. Everything from the name and product designs to the TV commercials and other marketing materials helps to establish this image.

You don’t have to be a Fortune 500 company to influence brand perceptions. Here are six steps to get you started on taking control of your brand:

1. Determine Your Target Audience

Your brand must appeal to your target audience, so it is essential that you know everything there is to know about who you are marketing to. The methods you would use to market to stay-at-home moms will be vastly different than those used to market to business owners. Discover the people who are mostly likely to buy your products and services. Be specific—how old are they, what are their interests, what are their values? Learn more about defining your target market.

2. Find Your Primary Message

When someone thinks of your company or product, there should be one thing that stands out in their minds. For instance, when you hear Volvo, you probably think safety. Again, make sure that the message is one that appeals to your target audience. Find out what is important to your audience and how your product/service can benefit them. The message should be simple and easy to understand. It also must be authentic. If you want to be known for superior customer service, be sure you can deliver on that promise.

3. Choose a Tone and Personality

Strive to create an emotional connection with your target audience. Do you want to make them laugh, cry, relax, get excited? When you walk around with a Starbucks cup, do you feel upscale and classy? How would you feel if you were driving a Lexus? A Hyundai? Do you want your company to be a cool kid or someone stable and trustworthy? Determine what your company’s tone and personality should be to effectively target your audience and portray your message.

4. Create Your Image

Once you know how you want your product/service to be remembered, all other marketing decisions are easier. Every font, color, paragraph, photograph, design layout, and marketing medium used should work to establish the company’s personality and image.

Do you want to be fun and hip? Use trendy fonts and bright colors, write funny ads and run them in popular magazines and TV shows, sponsor a hit music event… you get the idea. With every business decision, ask yourself if you are helping to establish your brand. If someone sees your fun and hip ad and then comes to your store, they shouldn’t be welcomed with elevator music and guys in sweater vests.

5. Be Consistent

Evaluate your business name, logo, business cards, brochure, outdoor signs, website, storefront, etc. Do they go together? Are you using the same fonts and color scheme in all media? Do all your materials work together to portray the company’s main message and personality? Think beyond marketing materials. What about your sales pitch, pricing, customer interactions, employee dress codes? Consistency is key to a building a strong brand.

6. Track the Results

The main purpose of branding is to drive sales. Not all businesses get it right the first time. Test your strategy to see if your target audience sees your brand as you see it. If they don’t, perhaps you are not reaching them with your marketing, or maybe they have personal experiences with the product/service contrary to the brand message. If they do understand your brand, is the message strong enough to get them to buy from you? If not, find out what will.

Ask your current customers what they like most about your product/service. How does it fit into their lifestyle? Look online to see if anyone is talking about your brand on blogs, Facebook and Twitter. You may come up with a new message that will resonate with your audience. Try not to do anything drastic that will alienate your current customers, but don’t be afraid to change things up a bit. Attitudes change over time, and messages may need changing to keep your company fresh and up to date.

Choosing Your Golf Apparel

Choosing Your Golf Apparel

When playing golf, there are many rules. It isn’t juat a matter of turning up to a golf course, playing a round of golf and then going home. You have to show good golf etiquette to be able to fit in with your surroundings and also to be allowed to play at the golf club.

One of the many rules of etiquette on the links is for each golfer to wear the proper golf apparel. This is one of the most important rules on the golf course. Following a strict dress code on the golf course, is something that most golf clubs and courses, even the public ones, require the golfers to do. Probably the most popular rule is the one of requesting that the golfers wear a collared shirt, although many courses also require long pants to be worn – not jeans of course – and proper golf shoes.

The primary rule of etiquette when actually hitting the links, is to show up on schedule for your tee time. It is important to be considerate of others and for you to not arrive a few minutes before tee off, still wanting to have a few practice swings on the driving range. Give yourself plenty of time, along with practice time, you will also need to find somewhere to park your car, purchase your golf balls, get changed into the correct golf apparel and collect your cart.

Cell-phones are also a big no no. Cell-phones are not part of the correct golf apparel and this should be considered before setting off on the course. They should either be left behind in your car or locker or if absolutely neccessary and needed for emergencies, should be kept in your bag, turned off.

Be sure that, when you are out on the golf course, you have a good understanding of the rules by which the other golfers want to play. Know, in advance, whether they honor the preceding holes score, for insance, by letting the golfer with the best score tee off on the next hole, or do they let whoever is ready to tee off, go first? It is possible, if you aren’t careful, ot offend strangers, if you have decided to join their group when you play, by not playing to their rules.

Along with the plaid pants, sweater vests, flat caps and other stereotypical golf apparel, golfers are also best known for their obsession with silence on the golf course. This does, however, make sense when you are concentrating into putting everything into your swing to hit a tiny ball with a long nearrow stick. Silence is a must!

So, even if you are just playing a round of golf with your friends, make sure to observe the basic rule of keeping quiet during shots and not to stand in the shooters direct line of vision.

Follow the rules, treat others on the course as you would like to be treated and have a great enjoyable game.

Create Copious Amounts of Content For Your Blog Quickly, Easily and Effortlessly

Create Copious Amounts of Content For Your Blog Quickly, Easily and Effortlessly

Fashion City Lights

Fashion City Lights

The look of a lit up city lights, the sight of flying taxi’s, the lure of pounding music in the distance and the soft beat of your heart are all what is included on the night out on the town. We’re looking to have a good time and in so doing we want to look and feel great. Nothing says a good time when you feel good in what you wear as well. So with the temperatures dropping and holiday seasons rolling around we’re looking for occasions to look good and even still we’re looking to look good even if there isn’t a specific occasion. Going to the pier for a good time on the Farris wheel or hoping in the car for a carpool ride with your friends to work, we want to look good.

Entering with this fall’s fashion we see some of the latest styles like sweater dresses, sweaters, tunics, and of course the all out time for the boots season. We bust out the boots mainly around this time because it’s not only fitting it’s also the time where we can be just warm enough and sexy and comfortable all in one setting. With the temperature drop sweater dresses are perfect for this weather and we can almost imagine the warmth and coziness. Styles like the ¼ sleeve or the long sleeve or sleeveless are hip and comfy and also worn for a sexy yet casual look and also where they can be soon found in stores like Victoria secret. They’re styles are not only sexy and stylish but they also use lasting material. Accessorizing with sweater dresses as well can be very easy. Depending on whether you choose to have a neck line or turtle neck will decide what kind of necklace you will want to wear. Sometimes the turtle neck can cover up the dangling necklace but if you want it to be seen you want to wear a longer necklace.

Boots look amazing with sweater dresses as well and make your legs look longer. Having the sweater dress meet the length of your knees or your boots meeting there will have this effect. The fall always calls for scarves and there are numerous places as to where you can find them like http://womenclothingtoday.com and express.com, where especially at this time sites like this have their seasonal sale. During this time you can find good deals of course so it’s a good time to find yourself in stores and not just online. Both places are different which means the prices will be. Finding accessories can be simple enough but seasonal items like sweater dresses are hard to find so be sure to snoop out a good deal and share it with your friends as well as enjoy the night life.

As a writer I like to give women of all ages a since of style that they can love forever. I enjoy feeding the interest of readers of all genres. If you have a taste for fashion or good fabric sense you can find a gorgeous collection of handmade painted silk shawls and scarves at http://womenclothingtoday.com or at http://womenclothingtoday.com/All_Silk_Scarves_and_Shawls/.

55 Percent of Matt Cassel’s Passing Yards Came After the Catch; Yes, That Led the NFL

55 Percent of Matt Cassel’s Passing Yards Came After the Catch; Yes, That Led the NFL

Nfl jerseys supply store report:

The Patriots have yet to report that the franchise Matt Cassel will be confirmed, but that does not mean it will happen, especially when recovering from Tom Brady really late. And while the organization has a history of handling personal data – no matter seriously – are as a matter of national security analyst for CBS and the sweater vest enthusiast Phil Simms absolutely sure, Cassel New England beat the franchise player tag. He heard their preferred source: Phil Simms. He acknowledges, however, that the first backup of the backup USC used to play in the Patriots ‘offensive’, but that does not mean it is not legitimate to start the fourth. He opened the eyes of the people in the league, and I know it is a crime, and they did a good job and all, but I always disconnect the quarterback of the team. Matt Cassel is big, strong, athletic, knows when to run with the football today, and oh, can really throw. Can someone who comes in the draft to fill the bill? It’s a solid point, and one of the Patriots will undoubtedly increase if trade agreements Kassel offseason.

The Lions, Vikings, Bucs and Jets are four teams, off the top of my head, who could be looking for a long-term franchise quarterback. And, save, maybe Detroit — who are No. 1 at something … the 2009 first-overall draft pick — one could make an argument for sending a first-rounder New England’s way for Cassel. Now, assuming Brady won’t be ready to start the ’09 season, I don’t think a trade will happen, but for the sake of argument, let’s say it does. Here’s something to consider (via the Boston Globe’s Mike Reiss): [Cassel] deserves whatever comes his way, but at the same time he also benefited from having some terrific yards-after-catch players in Wes Welker, Kevin Faulk and Randy Moss around him.

Approximately 55 percent of the team’s passing yards came after the catch, which was a league high. So if a team is going to trade for Cassel, I think it must ask itself some important questions: Do we have a similar system and talent? And is Cassel indeed a proven option without those parts around him (e.g. Tom Brady in 2006)? To answer the last two questions: no and no. None of the teams listed above have anywhere near the offensive firepower of the Patriots, but that doesn’t mean Cassel can’t be successful in, say, Tampa or New York. Just that it’s probably important to temper the expectations. Even though he might occasionally look like Brady in the pocket, he most certainly is not. Again, that’s not a knock; just stating what should be obvious: there’s a huge difference between arguably the best quarterback in the league this decade and a guy who had an above-average season throwing to Randy Moss and Wes Welker.

I suspect some team desperate for quarterback help will make the Patriots an attractive offer. I’m just not sure New England will be in a position to make a deal until they know more about Brady’s knee.
